Printer Language of Epson Drivers

Epson introduced a printer control language called Epson Standard Code for Printers (ESC/P) to properly control the functions of their printing devices. It was first introduced into Epson's line of dot-matrix printers and is now considered as its trademark and is incorporated into all of its new product lines. The printer control language describes and controls the appearance of a printed document instead of converting it to a bitmap image like many other printer manufacturers.

The code is written in binary/text data streams, which can be used to generate multiple copies of the printed image with 100% accuracy. The ESC/P varies according to the model and functionality of the Epson printer. The code is integrated on the Epson drivers that are installed into the computer operating system (such as Linux, Windows XP, Vista or Windows® 7) when the printer is first connected to the PC or laptop.

Epson Driver Downloads

Epson continuously seeks to ensure its products are compatible with the new versions of computer operating systems and other device drivers and as such keeps its website updated with the latest drivers for its products. This makes locating and downloading current Epson drivers from the company's website relatively simple.

The launch of both the Vista and Microsoft Windows® 7 - the latest operating system in the Microsoft Windows line - have created concerns because of the high number of compatibility issues that have arisen between Vista/Windows® 7 and many brands of hardware devices and their drivers. It is highly possible that new Epson/Vista/Windows® 7 problems will continue to surface despite the release of the 64-bit Epson driver which have been incorporated into the installation discs that accompany their new products.

Download Epson Drivers

Epson is developing new sets of drivers that have full-compatibility support for Windows Vista and Windows® 7 to resolve performance problem. Since many of the installation discs bundled with older Epson devices do not contain the new 64-bit drivers, for Vista or Windows® 7, you will need to download replacement drivers from the Epson website or another reputable online source.

Another option is to download a device driver utility program from the Internet which will automatically update and install the correct drivers needed by your computer. These applications save valuable time and takes the confusion out of you having to manually configure your system to resolve the device driver problem.

If you have purchased a new Windows® 7-based computer, there are built-in updated versions of Epson device drivers and a driver download feature. You only need to plug the device into your PC or laptop and Windows Windows® 7 will automatically detect the correct drivers for the device. This means there is no need for installation discs or downloaded drivers. This feature only applies to Epson products so your other device drivers (i.e. graphics adapter, DVD drive) will likely require updating.
