Gateway is famous for making the first "cow patterned" computer shipping boxes back in the early 1990s. In 2004, Gateway purchased eMachines and moved its headquarters to the Los Angles area. In late 2007, Acer Computers purchased Gateway and it is now operated as a stand-alone division of Acer computers - currently the third largest PC manufacturer in the world
